Many people have undergone and are satisfied with Piedmont Eye Center’s iLASIK™ procedure. Are you thinking about getting LASIK surgery, but you’re not sure what to expect from it? One patient decided to document her journey through her iLASIK™ procedure, so that you can decide if you think this surgery might be right for you.
Vlog 1: Deciding to Get LASIK
Jen Slightham is the iLASIK™ patient we’ll be following. During her free evaluation appointment with Dr. Bowers, the iLASIK™ surgeon at Piedmont Eye Center, she discovered that she is a candidate for the procedure. She’s excited and nervous to get LASIK done on her eyes, since she says she has -4 vision in both eyes and has been wearing glasses and contacts from a young age to correct it. At the appointment, Dr. Bowers scheduled her surgery and follow-up appointments and gave her instructions on how to prepare.
Vlog 2: It’s LASIK Time!
It’s time for the surgery! Jen was nervous, but ready to get the procedure done. When she was called in, Dr. Bowers got her comfortable and ready, and did the procedure. She left wearing goggles to protect her sight, and she was instructed to go home and keep her eyes closed for six hours, with a treatment of eye drops in the middle. She could see a difference in her sight immediately after the surgery was completed.
Vlog 3: Post Surgery Follow-up
It’s been one week since the procedure, and Jen is feeling good! She had been putting in eye drops immediately upon waking up every morning, but this morning, she didn’t feel the need to do them immediately. She can see well. There was a little redness in her eyes, but other than that, she felt fine. Dr. Bowers said she still has a little dry eye, but she’s healing just fine.
Video 4: My Overall Experience With LASIK
It has been several months since the surgery, and Jen decided to record a final update about how her eye situation has progressed.
There were a few things Jen particularly liked about the process. First, the iLASIK™ evaluation was free, so you don’t need to be financially tied to it until you know more about it. Piedmont Eye offers financing for the procedure and the staff were all kind, friendly and sweet, willing to answer any questions and attentive to her needs. During the evaluation, they showed her a video on the risks, the procedure and how the surgery is done. She appreciated knowing all of it beforehand so she would be prepared for everything.
The entire surgery procedure was projected to take a couple hours, with the majority of the time being spent filling out paperwork, getting relaxation medication and recovering. The surgery itself only takes about twenty minutes. Jen could see well even right after the surgery was completed.
She was instructed to go home and go to bed, but she decided to wait until evening and take her medicine then, since she has small children. Unfortunately, she ended up regretting that decision, because her eyes started burning that evening, and she’s sure she wouldn’t have noticed it if she’d just gone to bed and fallen asleep. She recommends that any iLASIK™ patient just follow the doctor’s instruction and go to bed right after getting home and taking the provided pain medication.
She did a check-in with Dr. Bowers the next morning, and she was feeling good and could see everything. She had an appointment the morning after, the week after, the month after and six months after.
