We value our staff members at Piedmont Eye Center, and we want our patients to get to know them better! Each month, we introduce you to one of the people who keep our office going. Next in our “Meet the Staff” series is Sally. Get to know her!
What is your role at Piedmont Eye Center?
I am the Director of Clinical Operations, which means that I am responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of quality care through instruction, orientation, evaluation, staffing and continuous performance improvement. I conduct research and establish best-practice guidelines for HIPAA compliance, CMS/Insurance Compliance, Risk Management, Recruiting & Training, Human Resources, State Employment laws, EEOC & ADA compliance, and FMLA/FLSA compliance.
How long have you worked at Piedmont?
Since August 1995.
What do you love most about your job?
In over 20 years of working in ophthalmology, I have discovered a passion for mentoring staff. I enjoy preparing our employees to succeed at their jobs by providing the tools, training, information and support they need to do an excellent job and feel the “Thrill of Victory” on a regular basis. I believe that as leaders we should constantly be developing ourselves and our staff to be the very best that we can be.
What is one thing you wish every patient knew?
I wish every patient knew how much I, too, miss “the old days” when medicine was less complicated and data driven and there was time to just chat and catch up with each other. Despite the ever-changing atmosphere of medicine I still want every encounter I have with each patient to be a meaningful and personal one.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I feel very fortunate—my husband and I live on a forty acre farm at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Amherst County. I get to enjoy the natural beauty of the Piedmont region, which is very calming and serene. I enjoy being in and around nature and the feeling of awe that it evokes.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing, what would it be?
Ellis, my cat.
If money was not a concern, what would you do every day if you didn’t work?
Travel.
If you could have dinner with any one person, living or dead, who would it be?
My sister, Jennifer.
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee.
Do you have any words of advice to share?
We live in an amazing world for an infinitesimal flash of time. Don’t waste it. This time will never come again.
